Professional biography

Dr Priyesh Patel is a London-based NHS doctor, humanitarian, speaker and founder of Neglected Elements. His career brings together frontline medicine, humanitarian action and public advocacy, with a particular focus on migration, health inequality and communities too often overlooked.

Priyesh has worked in emergency medicine for more than seven years, caring for adults and children across busy London hospitals. Internationally, he has led healthcare teams supporting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in Greece and worked with vulnerable communities—including people experiencing homelessness, exploitation and substance dependence—in challenging outreach environments across Europe.

In 2024, Priyesh served as Lead Medic aboard the Sea-Watch 5 in the Mediterranean, where the crew rescued 289 people, including children and unaccompanied minors. He helped lead the medical response and coordinated a complex helicopter evacuation for a critically unwell survivor.

Priyesh founded Neglected Elements to create powerful, evidence-based education addressing humanitarian health and neglected global issues. He is also part of the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme and has lectured at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry since 2017.

His work on female genital mutilation has been presented internationally and received the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Prize for an audit of services at an East London FGM clinic. His wider interests include refugee and asylum health, human trafficking, modern slavery, safeguarding and healthcare inequality.

A TEDxNHS speaker and increasingly recognised public voice, Priyesh combines clinical experience with calm, confident and compassionate communication. His widely shared exchange with Nigel Farage reached millions of people and drew widespread praise for challenging divisive rhetoric with humanity and conviction.

Priyesh holds a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences and an MSc in Global Health and Development from UCL, alongside his medical degree from Queen Mary University of London.
